{"id":1304,"date":"2011-10-27T21:47:50","date_gmt":"2011-10-28T04:47:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.organiclightphoto.com\/blog\/?p=1304"},"modified":"2011-10-27T21:47:50","modified_gmt":"2011-10-28T04:47:50","slug":"dhul-hijjah-1432-begins","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.organiclightphoto.com\/blog\/index.php\/2011\/10\/dhul-hijjah-1432-begins\/","title":{"rendered":"Dhul Hijjah 1432 Begins"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Wow, it has been too long since I have posted. \u00a0I am sorry. \u00a0I have been swamped with teaching, and it only looks like its going to get busier. \u00a0In any case several things have developed over the last month. \u00a0I promise to get to that news as soon as I get back from the Autumn in Yosemite Valley workshop taking place this weekend.<\/p>\n<p>However tonight, like clockwork we went out to search for the new crescent moon of the 12th month of the Islamic Calendar, Dhul Hijjah. \u00a0With good fortune we were able to see this incredibly thin crescent and photograph it. \u00a0This moon not only marks the beginning of the 12th month, but also the Hajj or holy pilgrimage to Mecca for the Muslims. \u00a0Approximately 2 to 2.5 million Muslims make the annual pilgrimage in a human spectacle that is unsurpassed anywhere else in the world.<\/p>\n<p>To all my Muslim readers, Dhul Hijjah Mubarak and to all the Pilgrims, Hajj Maqbool (may your pilgrimage be accepted).<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Dhul Hijjah 1, 1432\" src=\"https:\/\/www.organiclightphoto.com\/images\/DhulHijjah1432WP.jpg\" alt=\"Crescent Moon of Dhul Hijjah 1432\" width=\"500\" height=\"332\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Crescent Moon of Dhul Hijjah 1432<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Oh, the particulars of this moon. \u00a0Captured at 6:40 pm PDT, at Russian Ridge Open Space Preserve in California in the northern Santa Cruz Mountains 37.2\u00b0 N latitude, 122.2\u00b0 W Longitude at an elevation of approximately 2300 feet above sea level. \u00a0With an altitude of approximately 2\u00b0 and an\u00a0azimuth\u00a0of 242\u00b0. \u00a0The skies were completely clear.<\/p>\n<p>Peace.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>With good fortune we were able to see this incredibly thin crescent and photograph it.
