Redwood Forest

Late afternoon in a small stand of second or third growth redwoods. The low angle sunlight filters through the canopy spotlighting areas on the ground and in the tress creating a mystical glow. The redwood forest is a mysterious place. The redwoods always grow close together in rings around what used to be the mother tree and in fact are the same tree - genetically they are all clones of the fallen mother. And this begs the question, are they new trees or just the same old tree with new offshoots. If they are just new offshoots, then these redwoods could conceivably be tens of thousands of years old! That is truly humbling.
